Welcoming Allison: Our New MSC!

3/16/2022 (Permalink)

Marketing Support Coordinator in front of SERVPRO Green and Logo Allison recently graduated from College and has a background in newspaper writing.

Working at SERVPRO provides room for opportunity, growth, and personal connection. Even within a short amount of time, new employees can witness an atmosphere of diversity and respect shown throughout the various SERVPRO locations, as well as a degree of flexibility.

According to Forbes article “3 Benefits of Diversity in the Workplace,” having a diverse workforce produces higher financial returns, expands a customer market, and promotes professional growth. To a potential employee, this implementation of inclusion is essential. It was even reported that one in three job seekers would not apply to a company that does not seem diverse. SERVPRO recognizes this importance and makes sure to impose and support a code of diversity and inclusion.

Today, prospective employees seek jobs that respect their time, salary, and work-life balance desires. Gone are the days of new employees putting in extra work for an underpaid wage in hopes of one day getting promoted. Interviewees are now making their expectations and values clear to employers from the start.

A study in a recent Forbes article “To Lure Workers, Companies Are Giving New Employees Their First Weeks Off, Speeding Up Retirement Plan Access—And Piling On The Cash,” noted that 20% of companies in a survey “were using sign-on bonuses more than before the pandemic” to incentivize employees to onboard.

A company in the article even requested workers to take a “recharge day” each month to promote a positive work-life balance. SERVPRO offers a sign-on bonus for many positions to keep up with these changes and notices the desires of future applicants such as a flexible schedule, valuable benefits, and a fair pay rate.

Magic Drying Techniques

2/11/2022 (Permalink)

Carpet Hooked to air movers to provide detail drying When rugs don't get adequately dried, they run the risk of microbial growth! This is how we ensure that doesn't happen!

Are you a fan of the movie Aladdin? If so, you will enjoy this magical drying technique that brings carpets to life. When our team of professionals arrives at a job affected by water, they have their procedures put into place that optimizes the drying time of certain materials. Some common elements we use when drying certain materials are airflow and humidity.

Our floating carpet technique entails setting air movers up under the wet carpet casting a constant airflow that drys the rug out. You might be wondering why we call it magical, and it's because the carpet is hooked to the air movers, which keeps them from moving. The air movers being placed at each corner displays this floating waving motion. The importance of not adding too many air movers is to keep in mind, which can cause an aggressive wave motion, resulting in the tac strip separating from the backing.

To ensure you aren't damaging your carpet, you should call SERVPRO® of Marshall, Sedalia and Columbia at 660-886-5194. Our team of trained professionals will have all your carpets floating like they were from Aladdin.

The Covid-19 pandemic changed the way the world thought about sanitation, and it’s the same for SERVPRO of Marshall, Columbia and Sedalia. As many businesses are welcoming employees back in their location, those employees shouldn’t have to worry about being exposed to new variants. SERVPRO has stepped up our game by adapting new products used during disinfection jobs that can eliminate the Covid-19 virus. We have implemented a new cleanliness strategy with our Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned standard.

Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned is the newly implemented defensive pathogen that uses our 3 C’s:

  • We recognize that each client is different, and their needs differ from other clients. SERVPRO tailors the program based on the needs of each client.

  • Once we obtain all of the vital information from the client, we will then agree upon the best course of action we should take. The deep clean we provide for each client is one of our EPA-Approved Hospital-Grade cleaning solutions.
  • Using this Hospital-Grade cleaning solution ensures the highest standard set by the CDC for their recommendation for cleaning and decontamination.

Certify

  • Once the job is completed, we will post the “Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned Shield” sticker displayed in the front window.

Emergency Ready Profiles (ERPs)

11/5/2021 (Permalink)

ERP right there on your phone The ERP program allows you to have complete access to the information you need to know about your home or business.

November indicates the time of year in which temperatures start to drop and winter is just around the corner. As a home or business owner, the thought of colder temperatures also brings concerns such as furnace malfunctions and frozen pipes.  We do not wish for any of these things to happen, but if they do, we want you to be prepared.

Emergency Ready Profiles (ERPs) are a helpful tool in locating and documenting where all the shut-offs are in your home or business, as well as having a list of all emergency contacts in the event of a disaster. The profile can be accessed via a mobile app or PC, and inside the app or website, is the ability to contact us directly for fast response.

While these profiles do not reduce the chance of a disaster happening, they can help reduce the amount of damage that occurs. Being able to find the shut-off valve quickly can help stop running water from causing damage to the home/business or cut electricity to prevent further safety hazards.

Minimizing the amount of damage can lessen the stress during the claim or reconstruction process and help us take less time in mitigating the damage to return the home back to its former glory.

Hands-On Training

Training is a crucial part of SERVPRO of Marshall, Sedalia and Columbia’s business model. To ensure our customer’s homes and businesses are being handled with the best of care and technique, production technicians and project managers go thru hours of training including on-the-job training and classroom hours. Last Saturday, SERVPRO of Marshall, Sedalia and Columbia team got together for some hands-on, off-the-job training. Laundry Safety

3/12/2021 (Permalink)

Dryer Laundry can easily pile up, but it is essential to practice basic safety techniques to protect your home.

Not clearing your filter after each use can be dangerous. It is reported that there are over 17,000 fires related to home dryers each year.
Here are a few simple tips to follow to help prevent a clothes dryer fire.
-Clean the filter screen after each load to prevent lint buildup.
-An adult should be at home whenever the dryer is in use and the home should have working smoke alarms.
-Clean the vents outside twice a year to clean out any accumulated dust and lint.
-Commercial dryers should be cleaned out regularly because of their frequent use and shared venting system.
-Don't dry mop heads in the dryer. The dryer's heat can ignite the chemical residue on mop heads.
-Keep the surrounding area clean. The dryer's heat may ignite anything left too close to the dryer.
-The safety of your family is important to us and we hope that you don't encounter such a fire. Be sure you follow these steps to avoid a fire in your home.

Winter Checklist for Your Home

Snow Flake The winter months are quickly approaching, so if you experience any damages from snow or ice, call our team to help.

WINTER CHECKLIST FOR YOUR HOME

Winter weather can wreak havoc on your home if you are not prepared. Here is a list of tips and tricks for the winter months.

WINDOWS & DOORS

*Replace weatherstripping around doors and windows to prevent heat loss.

*Make sure your windows are securely locked to prevent cold air coming in or heat loss.

*Inspect windows for cracks, gaps or broken glass.  Replace or repair if needed.

GUTTERS

*Clean out any debris to prevent blockage of water flow and make sure downspouts flow away from house to prevent flooding or foundation damage.

*Make sure gutters are properly fastened.  Ice and snow can pull gutters down and away from home.

*Cleaning out downspouts help with ice dams.

DRAINS

*Cover outside faucets with an insulated cover if not frost free.

*Unhook hoses and drain them before putting them away.

HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING

*Cover air conditioner with a protective cover.

*Replace air filter in furnace.

*Check duct work in attic and or basement for any leaks.

*Inspect Chimney flue for cracks, creosote and soot buildup before starting a fire.  Also, check damper to see if it is working properly and not rusted, or warped.  This could help avoid a fire hazard.

ROOF

*Check for deteriorating flashing around vent pipes, chimney and sky lights.  Seal or replace where water could seep in.

*Check for any roof damage which could create water damage from snow or ice melting on roof.

Ways To Increase the Resale Value of a Property Through Restoration

10/9/2020 (Permalink)

Products and a vehicle in front of a home It is a fact: a clean, fresh smelling home sells faster, so that's why we are here to help realtors with difficult listings.

Customers might be concerned that undergoing damage and requiring restoration work might bring down the resale value of properties. These customers will want to know the relationship between restoration work and resale values of the properties.

Customers will be interested in learning what are some of the most cost-effective ways to raise the real estate value of their property. You can provide your insight as a leader in the restoration business to give your customers.

  1. Have your duct work cleaned out – It’s a good idea to start cleaning ducts before winter hits. This will help you out by ensuring that everyone in home stays healthy, but more so, they will also help you save money and to prolong the life of your duct system.
  1. Have your carpets cleaned – Brushing and vacuuming carpets, while being helpful, does not count as carpet cleaning. Vacuuming should be done twice a week to remove around 80% of the dirt and grime that accumulates in your carpets. Carpets should be professionally cleaned at least twice a year. Carpets cleaned professionally can remove the pathogens that hide within the fiber of your carpets. Allergens such as dust mites, bedbugs, and pollen can safely be extracted from the carpets.
  1. The potential dangers of removing mold yourself – We all are exposed to low levels of mold spores every day. However, molds can settle down and spread quickly through out your home. Exposure to certain molds can have effects on one's health. While DIYers sometimes attempt to tackle the problems in their home, mold is one that should be handled by a professional. Mold remediation requires the expertise of a professional with years of experience in safety and properly removing mold from your home.
  1. Odor Removal – Odors can be concerning when they linger and are tough to eliminate. Airing out the property and using air fresheners are masking agents. Lingering odors can indicate that there is serious damage that has been done to the property, such as water damage, mold growth, or smoke damage. Odors are usually an indicator of a larger issue. If you do not see it, but can smell it, then call your professional Restoration Company.

SERVPRO of Marshall, Sedalia and Columbia is Here to Help.

Norma and Don Rutter opened SERVPRO of Marshall in June of 1984. Phil worked for them for a year before he and Rebecca bought their first franchise in January of 1994. Later in 1999, they purchased their second franchise, opening SERVPRO of Columbia. SERVPRO of Sedalia was later purchased, but was serviced by them, since 1984.

Believe it or not, Phil went across the Missouri River on a boat with air movers and dehumidifiers, during the flood of 1993. He made a risky trip to help his customers. Phil and Rebecca are proud to serve and be a part of the community. Helping our neighbors get back to their homes and businesses after a fire or water damage is why we are Here to Help®.
